For the bread:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • a dash of nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter , softened to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 large eggs , at room temperature
  • 4 very ripe bananas , mashed with a fork or potato masher
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup walnuts , toasted and chopped

For the streusel topping:

  1. 3 tablespoons flour
  2. 1/4 cup brown sugar
  3. 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  4. 2 tablespoon unsalted butter , slightly softened and cut into pieces
  5. 1/4 cup chopped walnuts


  1. Preheat oven to 325 ranges F. Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan. Set apart.
  2. The streusel topping. upload the flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a medium bowl and blend till blended. cut inside the butter using your palms or a pastry blender, until it resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in chopped walnuts. Set aside.

With a wood spoon, stir within the mashed bananas, buttermilk and vanilla. Slowly stir within the dry substances. as soon as the flour is integrated, stop right there. Do not over stir. gently stir in walnuts. The batter will be thick.
  5. Pour the batter into the organized loaf pan. Sprinkle the streusel topping calmly over the batter. Bake the bread for 1 hour to at least one hour 10 mins, or until a toothpick inserted into the middle of the loaf comes out smooth.
  6. eliminate from oven and cool 10-15 mins inside the pan on a cord rack. remove the bread from the pan and hold to cool at the twine rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.
